NO ONE TOLD ME THIS UNTIL I WAS AN ADULT...

Today would’ve been my grandma’s 91st birthday...
.
She passed away almost 8 years ago - the first week I was dating Eric (which is a story for another time)...
.
At her wake when younger pictures of her were shown, nearly everyone I shook hands with in the receiving line said...
.
Wow, I never realized how much you looked like your grandma...
.
Last year, after Eric and I returned home from our honeymoon, my mom posted pics on FB (you know our parents dig FB way more than us millennials 😉#babyboomers)...
.
My great-aunt who I haven’t seen since I was a very small child commented...
.
I can’t get over how much she looks like Ellie...
.
This is when it really hit me because my aunt Frances had known my grandma when she was my age - during this time of our “sameness”...
.
You can swipe and decide for yourself BUT here’s why I share this...
.
My grandmother was *the* person to always tell me what a great writer I was and encouraged me TO WRITE...
.
I would read my stories aloud to her and in the last summer of her life knowing she would pass away soon, I wrote her a handwritten letter every week.
.
And as I’m a full-time writer and creator, I think of her every time I sit down to write...
.
I also think if her every time I make money as a writer and as I get further and further away from my *struggle* with money...
.
Watching my grandma struggle with money her whole life had a lasting imprint on me...
.
Money filled her with fear and I know it held her back from doing more for herself.
.
You feel me on that?...
.
So, I’m on a quest to change that for myself because I, too, have the same fear.

Eric and I were talking last night and he noticed there’s a shift in me, in my energy around money...
.
I’m on this quest for both my grandma and me and I hope you’ll join me for yourself, too...

I had stuff to say today but who cares, Luke Perry died...

And I’m f*cking heart broken. Period.

Luke Perry was the first man I ever ❤️...
.
(Well, besides Ian McShane but that's another story)...
.
My mom had a friend named Alan Andrews and when I was a kid he knew how much I loved Dylan McKay...
.
So he would leave me gifts like Boo Radley and say they were from Dylan McKay...
.
He got me the 90210 perfume, the 90210 notebook, makeup kit, and Dylan and Kelly Barbie doll set...
.
He once called me on the phone and pretended to be Dylan...
.
It made my entire childhood as I still remember standing on the dark brown rug in the living room on Bear Street with the blue corded phone to my ear...
.
What else can I say?...
.
That's how much I loved Dylan and how much I loved Luke Perry...
.
90210 was my all-time favorite show...
.
Still is right beside True Blood and Friday Night Lights...
.
As of recent years, I was excited to see Luke in more stuff as I thought he was a great actor who needed more opportunities...
.
He leaves an imprint on my childhood and heart for sure and my heart goes out to all who truly knew him.
